Empowering Communities: Ga Central NADMO Orients 40 New Disaster Volunteers
In an era where proactive disaster management is more critical than ever, the Ga Central Municipal Assembly has taken a significant leap forward. On April 15, 2026, the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) hosted a pivotal orientation program for its newly formed Disaster Volunteer Groups (DVGs).
The event, held under the chairmanship of the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, and led by the Municipal NADMO Director, Mr. Hakeem Asamoah, marked a new chapter in community resilience for the municipality.
A Call to Service
The orientation kicked off at 10:00 AM with a clear mission: to equip 40 dedicated community members with the knowledge and spirit required to manage disasters at the grassroots level.
In his keynote address, Mr. Hakeem Asamoah welcomed the volunteers and underscored the gravity of their roles. He reminded the group that being a NADMO volunteer is not just a title—it is a commitment to safeguarding lives and property within the Ga Central community.
Distinguished Support from National and Regional Levels
The importance of this orientation was highlighted by the presence of high-ranking officials who traveled to support the municipal team:
Colonel (Rtd) Hahayli: Director for Operations, NADMO National.
Nana Adubea Koranteng: Deputy Director of Finance and Administration, NADMO Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).
Moses Annaba: Deputy Director and lead facilitator for the day.
The presence of these leaders provided the volunteers with a sense of the nationwide network they are now a part of, emphasizing that their local efforts contribute to a larger national safety net.
Training and Logistics: Preparing for the Frontlines
The facilitator, Moses Annaba, led the volunteers through a series of intensive presentations. These sessions covered the core duties of a DVG, ranging from early warning signals to effective emergency response.
To the excitement of many, the facilitators revealed that this orientation is only the beginning. Future training sessions are being planned, including specialized military-style drills designed to build the physical and mental stamina necessary for high-pressure disaster scenarios.
Equipping the Team
A highlight of the day was the official presentation of essential gear. To ensure the volunteers can perform their duties safely and professionally, NADMO National provided:
Wellington Boots: For navigating flooded or hazardous terrain.
Reflectors: For identification and To ensure high visibility during night operations or low-light emergencies.
A Resilient Future
As the program concluded, the 40 volunteers expressed immense satisfaction and a renewed sense of purpose. By integrating local citizens into the disaster management framework, the Ga Central Municipality is ensuring that when disaster strikes, the first responders are already on the scene, trained and ready to act.
Disaster management is a shared responsibility, the officials noted, and today, Ga Central proved that its community is ready to step up to the plate.
