Spotlight on Excellence: Boakye Precious Nti’s Vision for Community Transformation


When fourteen-year-old Boakye Precious Nti, a Basic 8 (JHS 2) student at Sims International, submitted her entry for the ESSENTIAL IMPACTS Essay Competition, she did more than complete an assignment—she delivered a blueprint for civic responsibility. Guided by her English facilitator, Precious has earned a well-deserved spot in the next stage of the competition, standing out for her original voice, sharp analytical writing, and deep engagement with real-world problems.

Her essay, titled "My Neighbourhood, My Responsibility: One Week as a Community Leader," presents a pragmatic, seven-day action plan designed to tackle issues common to urban communities: poor sanitation, flash flooding, fire risks, and youth engagement.


Here is how Precious envisions driving meaningful change in just one week:


 Day 1: Building Consensus: Opening her leadership mandate with a town hall, Precious prioritizes collaboration by bringing together local authorities, traditional leaders, youth groups, and residents to map out pressing challenges.


 Day 2: Tackling Waste & Drainage: Directing community volunteers in a neighbourhood cleanup, her focus centers on clearing blocked gutters and plastic waste to mitigate urban flood hazards.


 Day 3: Environmental Resilience: Moving beyond simple cleanups, she targets structural drainage repairs with local assemblies and introduces tree planting initiatives to control soil erosion.


 Day 4: Fire Safety Awareness: Responding to recent household and commercial fire incidents, she proposes practical community education and emergency contact distribution to speed up response times.


 Day 5: Security & Public Safety: Collaborating with local security agencies, Precious outlines plans to reinforce neighbourhood watch groups, restore street lighting, and build trust with law enforcement.


 Day 6: Youth Development & Inclusion: Recognizing that sustainable communities require active youth, her agenda features sports, leadership seminars, and support systems for vulnerable residents.


 Day 7: Accountability & Long-Term Planning: Closing the week with a community review forum, she establishes dedicated committees to ensure projects continue long after the seven days end.


Precious reminds us that leadership is fundamentally about service, responsibility, and inspiring collective action. Her advance to the next stage of the essay competition highlights the immense potential of young writers taking ownership of their communities' future.
