Eleven-year-old Samuella Donnel Avisey, a Basic 6 pupil at HI 5 International school, has laid out a clear, actionable vision for local governance in her insightful essay titled "My Neighborhood, My Responsibility: One Week as a Community Leader." Developed with guidance and refining support from her mother, Mrs. Amanda Donnel Avisey, Samuella’s blueprint demonstrates how thoughtful initiative, structured planning, and collective civic effort can tackle pressing local challenges.


Here is a breakdown of Samuella’s seven-day leadership roadmap to build a safer, healthier neighbourhood:


Monday & Tuesday: Restoring Road Infrastructure


 The Challenge: Hazardous potholes on main streets cause frequent vehicular damage and increase the risk of road accidents.


 The Action Plan: Mobilize local youth volunteers and community members for a hands-on communal labour initiative to fill dangerous potholes with gravel and stone as an immediate fix.


 Civic Engagement: Draft and submit a formal petition to the local municipal assembly advocating for permanent asphalt repairs.


Wednesday & Thursday: Strengthening Pedestrian Safety


 The Challenge: High-speed traffic poses daily dangers to vulnerable pedestrians, particularly school children and the elderly.


 The Action Plan: Partner with local traffic police and community watch teams to establish designated school-crossing zones at busy intersections.


 Traffic Enforcement: Deploy volunteers at strategic station posts to enforce neighborhood speed limits and assist pedestrians safety across the street.


Friday & Saturday: Expanding Healthcare Accessibility


 The Challenge: Long travel times to distant medical facilities in emergency situations put local lives at risk.


 The Action Plan: Lead a representative delegation to meet with municipal health officials and community elders.


 Advocacy Goal: Formally petition for the establishment of a local Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound or primary health clinic.


Sunday: Promoting Community Wellness


 The Action Plan: Wrap up the week by hosting a free community health screening and interactive emergency first-aid workshop for residents.


Samuella’s framework proves that effective leadership is rooted in action, advocacy, and bringing people together. By addressing physical infrastructure, street safety, and emergency healthcare, her week of action provides an inspiring model for grassroots civic responsibility.
